Goat Post: Issue 03

This week, we keep it 100. One hundred plus, in fact. This is Goatnet, growing as we’ve hoped. A friend from Austin, James Ehrlich, had a person in mind. He knew what we’re about: Greats, of all types. So James jumped on board at this early stage and proposed a visit with Col. Joe McPhail. He is 103.
So we were invited into Col. McPhail’s home, where we were greeted by his adoring daughter. This was a golden opportunity to celebrate a heroic life and to demonstrate our lean, efficient approach to storygathering. The star of the conversation told us about wanting to play sports, but an injury made that difficult.
Instead, little Joe looked up to the sky. He wanted to be up there. That was it, his calling. A century under his belt, the only thing he’d change are the friends, the family, he lost along the way.
Thank you, James, for the inspired opportunity to help a family document these stories and to collect content that will benefit everyone it touches.
TBH, You Should Float A Goat Too
It doesn’t have to be a war hero, either. Goatnet is about the greats next door, the greats of their families, of their fields, even in their formative years. We’re here to become your most valuable platform, to make it easy to stitch together the source work for stories that will serve you and your community exceptionally well. A bunch more to come regarding those who aspire toward greater days.

Col. Joe McPhail: A Hero at 103
Born in Tyler, TX, the oldest living F4U Corsair pilot, Col. Joe McPhail learned to fly in a Piper Cub.
Commissioned 3 days before Pearl Harbor
Flew the F4F Wildcat and F4U Corsair as a WWII & Korean War combat pilot
Survived a water crash landing off Japan and shot down 2 enemy aircraft
Flew 400+ missions and earned 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses
Logged 17,000+ flight hours over 40+ years
Here’s a one-minute sampling of Col. McPhail’s goat takes. I especially appreciated the one about the secret of living 100+ years. Hint: It’s cool and sweet.
More Than Muscle: Kyle Farnsworth
Many baseball fans remember Kyle Fanrnsworth’s takedown of Paul Wilson 22 years ago when Wilson charged the mound in one of the more immediately regrettable decisions in the history of decisions.
Kyle takes us behind the scenes of that day — including the advice he remembered from his father, a Vietnam fighter pilot: “Eliminate the threat.” And that’s exactly what Kyle did.
Now living in Florida, coaching kids and competing as a bodybuilder, Kyle’s heart is just as powerful as his frame—driven by a deep passion for mentoring people and giving back.
He works with Rise 2 Greatness, focused on creating access to playing ball, promoting healthy habits and helping the next generation realize potential.
Kyle shares more about Rise 2 Greatness, eating right, working out, the MLB Draft — and reflects on the discipline he learned from his father, the courageous role model who fought cancer to the end, and the strength he gained from his mother’s resilience.
The Road Ahead for Henry Ford: Tennessee Volunteers or The Show?
With the MLB Draft around the corner, we’re pleased to share some onboarding excerpts from Henry Ford, who’s at a pivotal point in his already impressive baseball career.
In 2024, he set freshman records at Virginia with 17 home runs and 69 RBIs.
He led the team in home runs again in 2025.
Now, after announcing his transfer to Tennessee, Henry is weighing another big decision.
A consensus Top 100 Prospect in the upcoming draft, he could be hearing his name called on July 14th.
In this clip, Henry reflects on his Charlottesville experience, big league aspirations and the brotherhood he enjoyed at UVA.
Next week, maybe the poster we generate will be about a goat you float. Here’s the one that Joe’s stories sparked.
It’s ok to stare at it over and over. He’s so wonderful. Enjoy the final stretch of June, tell your friends about us and Goat big!
